Why should I back this project?

Versa58 lets you build your own fidget-friendly 58 mm mini multi-tools or add new capabilities to your 58 mm SAK. It introduces modular customization to the format while honoring the trusted Victorinox design behind it.

If you already carry a 58mm SAK like the Classic, the Rambler, or the MiniChamp, Versa58 lets you add functionality without modifying it. If you prefer standalone tools, the same modules snap together magnetically to create pocketable rigs you can rebuild anytime.

By backing on Kickstarter you: • Get early access before retail • Lock in the best pricing the system will ever offer • Help decide which modules, finishes, and bundles we produce next • Directly support the tooling, production, and expansion of the Versa58 ecosystem

You’re not just buying a tool. You’re helping launch a platform designed to evolve with however you choose to carry.

What SAKs is Versa58 compatible with?

Versa58 is designed for Victorinox 58mm Swiss Army Knives with removable plastic (Cellidor) scales, including: • Classic SD • Rally • Jetsetter • Rambler • Manager • MiniChamp

…and most other 58mm models that use the same plastic snap-on scale construction.

If your SAK’s plastic scales can be pried off and snapped back on, Versa58 modules attach using those same factory mushroom rivet points. No glue. No permanent modification.

The Versa58 is not compatible with the 58mm Alox (aluminum) versions or any 58mm SAK with non-removable or permanently fastened scales.

Do I need to modify my SAK?

No. Versa58 is a non-destructive, reversible upgrade. • No grinding, drilling, or permanent mods • No adhesives • No special tools required

The spring steel interface plate snaps onto the mushroom-shaped factory rivets in the exact locations where the original scales attach. You can always return your SAK to stock form by removing the Versa58 components and reinstalling the original scales.

How do I remove the plastic scales on my 58mm SAK?

Here are three of the best publicly available guides that show how to safely remove (and, if needed, replace) the plastic (cellidor) scales from 58mm Victorinox SAKs, useful if you’re planning to swap them for your Versa58 interface plates.

“How to remove the scales on a 58mm Swiss Army Knife (Classic, Manager, Jetsetter, etc.)” by Josh’s Shop - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShGmy57fdHM

This video walks you through how to remove the scales on small-format SAKs including Classic SD. It shows the angle, leverage, and gentle prying needed so plastic scales come off without damaging rivets or liners.

“58mm Victorinox Classic SD Scale Swap” by The Common Man (2024)

Recent, high-resolution walkthrough where the uploader replaces stock scales with milled aftermarket ones. Good reference for scale removal and re-installation. Helpful if you plan to restore the original scales after testing Versa58.

“How to change or replace scales on a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife” via SAKParts.com - https://sakparts.com/blogs/everything-about-victorinox-swiss-army-knife/how-to-change-or-replace-victorinox-swiss-army-knife-scales

This guide outlines a safe, step-by-step procedure: • Optional warming (hot water) to soften plastic scales for easier removal • Gentle prying using a thin tool (non-blade) inserted at a notch or accessory slot • Slow, even pressure to work the scale off

⚠️ What to Know Before You Try • Plastic (cellidor) scales detach by friction, not rivets - but they snap on tight. Gentle, controlled leverage is key. • Warm water or heat helps soften plastic for easier removal, lowering risk of cracking.   • Avoid harsh tools or excessive force - you want clean removal so re-attachment (stock or Versa58) seats properly. • For Alox or permanently-riveted metal scales replacing liners: those require complete disassembly or major modification and are best avoided.

How secure are the modules and MagMount connections? Will they fall off?

Short answer: they’re designed not to.

On the SAK: • The spring steel interface plate grips the factory rivets with a firm, tactile snap. • Modules engage via this plate to keep everything aligned and locked in place for everyday use.

Off the SAK (standalone rigs): • Each MagMount uses three neodymium magnets arranged to provide: • A crisp, repeatable pull strength • Smooth rotation and repositioning • Enough resistance to stay together in pocket, on desk, or on a keychain

Versa58 was engineered for repeated reconfiguration. That means the connection must be strong enough for carry, but not so strong that you need tools to separate modules.

Does the system work without a SAK?

Yes.

Every module can also be used as a standalone mini tool by using MagMount connectors and companion plates. That means you can: • Build compact keychain tools • Create pocketable rigs with just the modules you need • Set up desk or workbench fidget / utility layouts without any knife attached

If you like the modules but don’t always want to carry a SAK, Versa58 still earns its place in your kit.

Do the modules add bulk or change pocketability?

Versa58 is designed around the classic 58 mm footprint so it still disappears in pocket. • The scales and modules add functionality while keeping the overall form as close to “stock SAK size” as possible. • Clip-equipped builds are tuned to ride securely on jeans, work pants, or EDC-style pocket seams without feeling like a brick. • You choose how minimal or loaded-out your build is: slim front scale only, full pocket-clip setup, or a more feature-dense stack.

The goal is more capability without turning your 58 mm SAK into a bulky keychain anchor.

How customizable is Versa58? Can I mix metals and change configurations later?

Customization is the whole point. • Cross-compatible metals: Aluminum and titanium scales are fully compatible with the same interface plates and modules. • Mix & match builds: Run aluminum on one side and titanium on the other, pair different finishes, or keep it clean and matched. Your call. • Reconfigurable modules: Modules and MagMounts can be rearranged whenever you want to change your setup for travel, office days, or outdoor use.

Backers will also help decide which finishes, colors, and module combos get prioritized through campaign surveys and stretch goal voting.

When will I receive my reward, and where do you ship?

Each reward tier lists an estimated delivery window based on our production and logistics plan. • We’ve built the schedule around realistic lead times for: • CNC machining and finishing • Magnet and hardware sourcing • Assembly, quality control, and packaging • If anything changes, we will update backers through Kickstarter updates and be transparent about the cause and revised timing.

Shipping & locations: • Available shipping destinations and rates will be clearly listed in the Shipping section of the campaign before you pledge. • Any region-specific notes (like VAT, customs duties, or remote-area surcharges) will be called out so you can make an informed decision.

As with all Kickstarter projects, these are estimates, not guarantees, but our goal is to keep communication clear and proactive throughout production and fulfillment.

What happens after the campaign? Future modules & pledge upgrades

PLEDGE UPGRADES & ADD-ONS

After the campaign’s conclusion, you’ll receive a BackerKit survey where you can: • Confirm your final configuration • Upgrade your pledge • Add extra modules, scales, or bundles • Finalize your shipping address

If you are on the fence between tiers during the campaign, you can back at a level you’re comfortable with now and expand your setup later in the pledge manager, subject to availability.

FUTURE MODULES Versa58 is designed as a platform, not a one-off product. Concepts on the roadmap include: • Bluetooth locator module • NFC module • Craft blade module • Key blade module • Sharpener plate • Bic lighter • Additional utility and fidget-focused modules

Backer feedback during and after the campaign will heavily influence which modules move into development first.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
